Quality, Food Safety and Environmental Management Policy at Conservas Cusumano, S.A.

By fully applying the principle of “QUALITY FIRST” to products, business and environmental impact, Senior Management is committed to having a Quality, Food Safety and Environmental Management System in place at all times. It will endeavour to update this system, while providing the staff and resources necessary to ensure it functions correctly.

The general directives and operating and management principles that have been established with a view to setting and achieving these aims are as follows:

  • Compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements in relation to the environment, committing to protect against any contamination caused by our own activity, and all other commitments, such as sustainable fishing (MSC certification).
  • Consumer protection, as our customers are the most important part of our activity, by manufacturing safe products in line with the law.
  • Strive to ensure continuous improvement in the quality of our preserves within a system aimed at enhancing all of our services, guaranteeing customer satisfaction (and/or that of stakeholders), ensuring the system’s sustainability (environmental, business, safety), and improving our environmental performance.
  • Train and inform all company employees in matters of quality, food safety and environment, implementing continuous improvement as a standard of conduct within the organisation.
  • Satisfy our clients’ highest demands, complying with their requirements and needs, to achieve their satisfaction; including legal requirements applicable to our organisation and products.
  • Thorough control of all parts of the process, from the moment raw and auxiliary materials are received through to delivery, including the production of tuna preserves in metal and glass containers; ensuring that all product quality and safety requirements are observed, as well as their specifications and the procedures outlined in the Quality, Food Safety and Environment Management System.
  • Embrace our environmental, social, occupational and ethical responsibilities by producing a safe product in safe working conditions, by respecting the environment, and use of which satisfies the end consumer.
  • Improve the company’s competitiveness by constantly improving the quality and safety of our products, the entirety of our processes, and our management in general.
  • Ensure the manufacture of a product that is harmless to the end consumer’s health by applying a HACCP System.
  • Periodic checks of the Quality and Food Safety Management System to ensure its efficacy and with a view to improving it.

Additionally, the company is committed to continually integrating working conditions and employee wellbeing, as well as non-discrimination among employees based on race, origin or gender, in line with its ethical responsibility.

Furthermore, it will act responsibly when faced with situations of crisis or alarm, always prioritising the safety of our products and consumer protection.

To ensure these principles are implemented and upheld, the company has a Quality, Food Safety and Environmental Management System in place, based on the standards ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and IFS Food, version 6. Senior Management at CONSERVAS CUSUMANO, S.A. will provide the technical resources, staff, organisational structure and training programmes necessary to guarantee correct implementation and operation of this management system.

Senior Management will inform all staff members of this Quality, Food Safety and Environmental Policy so they may understand, implement and uphold it. It will also be published on the company’s website so our collaborators (distributors, representatives, etc.), our products’ consumers and our stakeholders are aware of it and able to access it.

Conservas Cusumano makes its Quality, Food Safety and Environmental Policy available publicly.

Environmental commitments of Conservas Cusumano, S.A.

CONSERVAS CUSUMANO, S.A., as a company committed to the environment, has put forward an ambitious plan based on the following aspects:

IMPROVE EFFICIENCY IN ELECTRICAL CONSUMPTION: To do so, it is changing its lighting for LED bulbs and on/off sensors.

IMPROVE INDUSTRIAL WATER PROCESSING: It is changing its industrial water processing method to minimise its generation and thus reduce its environmental impact.

With these measures, the company will help the environment in the area where it is located, the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve.
